miome: (flirts have more fun)
I love me some fantasy, and fantasy cop BAMF mysteries is super jam, so I do love me Simon Green's Hawk and Fisher series. (Hawk and Fisher on Good Reads) They are a bit formulaic - each case turns somehow mysteriously into a locked room murder mystery. I don't care, they're still fantastic, and have very satisfying endings. Until #6.

Don't get me wrong, #6 is great. It breaks out of the locked room murder plot and goes straight for revolution, demon summoning and apocalypse. It's got a great build, and when the final ritual goes off I'm on the edge of my seat to see what happens.

And then there are giant undead lobsters in restaurant kitchens. And undead cows trampling people in the streets. Undead chickens. Race horses. You get me.

Evidently the explanation for this is all the animals killed in the city have been summoned back and seek revenge? Luckily for this feeble explanation the anticipation and coolness has already been ruined by the zombie entrees. And then Aslan shows up. No I'm not kidding. And he's Jesus, yes I'm still not kidding.

Hawk and Fisher jumped the shark and then brought it back to shamble through the wreckage of this book series. Apocalyptic indeed.
